Meet the Great White Sharks of Guadalupe

Shark Diving Xperts have created profiles for some of the great white sharks that we see most regularly on our Guadalupe shark diving trips, all with incredibly diverse, unique and memorable personalities!

    15ft Female shark

    Gianna is an impressive 15ft mature female with a cautious and calm demeanour. She is also one of our tagged sharks and her data has revealed that she migrates vast distances as well as diving to extreme depths along the way.

    Geoff Nuttall was first documented in 2003 and has been seen almost every year since. He is a cunning and intelligent animal who has adapted and honed his hunting strategy over the years, making him very popular with our divers.

    17ft Female shark

    Bullet is a huge 17ft female named after the “bullet hole” marking on both sides of her dorsal fin. After a very close encounter with our divers went viral in the news, she has gone on to become a shark star!

    Screaming Mimi

    14ft Female shark

    One of the Island's up and coming female sharks, Screaming Mimi strikes first and asks question later! With a tagged dorsal fin and unique “kink” in her tail, Mimi is growing into a fearless mature shark….fast!

    Covered in freckles and spots, Heracles is unmistakable. In recent years, this shark has endeared himself to our team with his very curious nature. What he lacks in girth he makes up for in length with his long and slender body.

    18ft Female shark

    Scarboard is a colossal 18ft female great white shark. Originally named after the huge scars that where down her right side, these days her whole body is completely covered in wounds and injuries making her look almost prehistoric!

    14ft Male shark

    Meli has developed a tumour to the side of his face making him very unique. Seen with some regularity, he is one of the easiest males to identify with his blunted dorsal and missing end to his caudal fin.

    Dotty

    17ft Female shark

    Dotty is one of the larger females seen at the Island but unlike most sharks her size, she is fiery when interacting with the baits. Named after the perfect “dot” she has in the centre of her dorsal fin plus many others around her gills.

    The Legend is one of our newer, smaller males who is seen more consistently than most of our sharks. Named after American Sniper Chris Kyle, he can always be relied upon to entertain our guests whenever he visits the boat.

    20ft Female shark

    In 2013 footage of Deep Blue went viral around the word and without her knowing it, she was made famous overnight! Estimated at 20ft in size she is the without doubt the biggest shark at Guadalupe and one of the largest of all time!!

    One of Guadalupe Island's tagged individuals, Drogin has been seen at the Island for many years and we have watched him grow to become a sizable male. Confident, bold and energetic on the baits, this shark is full of life!

    A new boy on the block, Islander is named after our vessel the M/V Islander. One of the Island's larger males, with an instantly recognisable “sliced” dorsal fin, this male was only recently added to the ID database of sharks

    Another member of Guadalupe’s huge mature female club, Sarah is a highly migratory animal with a very relaxed demeanor. She has an unmistakable jagged dorsal fin that is instantly recognizable.

    One of the younger males at Guadalupe, Johnny has become a regular visitor here in recent years, specifically during the early part of the season. He is easily identified by unique white markings on either side of his gills.

    Tzitzimitl

    18ft Female shark

    Named after the Aztec goddess, meaning “Air Demon”, Tzitzimitl is a monstrous sized female with a missing upper caudal fin and massive girth. Weighing up to 2 tons with the width of between 6 - 8ft, she is a gigantic shark.

    Biteface is one of the original sharks identified at Guadalupe, full of character, he has been seen every year since diving began at the Island. His name, predictably, comes from the massive amounts of scarring on his head.

    Perhaps the most famous, most seen and most photographed great white shark in the world, Shredder is a true legend of Guadalupe. No other shark comes close to the performances and displays he puts on for our guests.

    Lucy is another classic Guadalupe shark, a favourite of Shark Diving Xperts and is probably the most famous mature female seen here due to her unique and instantly recognizable broken caudal fin.

    Bruce is the rock star of the shark world. He has been seen for over 15 years at Guadalupe and from being first spotted as a sub adult, he has gone on to become one of the largest male sharks you are likely to ever meet.
